In December 2023 a joint initiative agreement aimed at improving the national driving licence system in Denmark was signed. The agreement sets out 12 initiatives designed to strengthen both the regulatory framework and the quality of driver training and testing.
Over the past years, the Danish Road Traffic Authority has been working to implement these initiatives. The reforms have had a broad impact on the driving licence area, including changes to both theoretical and practical tests.
Key initiatives include the revision of driving education, new rules governing the use of interpreters during tests, measures to address cheating, the introduction of a grace period after failing a test, and a pilot project exploring driving licences obtained in automatic transmission vehicles. In addition, Denmark introduced an accompanied driving scheme for 17-year-old drivers in summer 2025.
In this webinar, Anne Mikkelsen and Ove Rasmussen, representatives from the Danish Road Traffic Authority will present selected initiatives, focusing on the implementation process and the reception among both learner drivers and driving teachers.
